Breath of the Wild Sequel In Development!

Revealed at Nintendo’s E3 2019 Direct, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild now has its sequel in development. We only saw a cinematic trailer, but that is enough to get anyone who has played Breath of the Wild to be intrigued.

As a note, while I have played Breath of the Wild, I have not completed it, so I am going to describe the trailer to the best of my ability.

The scene opens up inside Hyrule Castle, still exhuding Calamity Ganon’s menacing mist, but now with a green spiral. This appears to be a lifeforce of some sort. Link and Zelda look like they’re dungeon delving, complete with torches and backpacks. They’re looking for something sinister. A figure is in the middle of a large room, mist and lifeforce surrounding it, as if it’s feeding. A hand is holding it, and we see flashes of events. Stepping closer, life flashes into the figure’s eyes, and outside, the castle begins to rise.

This is all that Nintendo has given us for now. Hopefully in the near future we will recieve more information on the game. I hope to finish the game by then as well.

What are you looking forward to in the sequel? Leave us a comment below!

Animal Crossing on Switch Delayed Until 2020

Animal Crossing on the Switch was originally supposed to be released later this year. However at the Nintendo Direct at E3 2019, they announced the title for the game, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, as well as a new release date- March 20, 2020.

Why the delay?

The reason for the delay was so that they could focus on making the experience the best that it can be, as explained in the Direct. This may be due to the recent events when companies (like Bethesda and BioWare) released too early and the game wasn’t in a finished state, causing backlash from the community. I for one would prefer that a company pushes back release so they can polish the game and make it the best that it can be. Wouldn’t you agree?

What do we know about the game?

Animal Crossing: New Horizons brings us to a deserted island, and none other than Tom Nook himself funds the whole trip. Well when I say fund, I mean loans you 49,800 Bells that you have to pay back.

I didn’t ask for your predatory loans Tom!

Anyways, you’re given a tent, and once you get that set up, you’re able to start making improvements on the island. Eventually, you’ll begin seeing more people arrive, and before long you have a small community.

Taking a stroll through the neighborhood

Hopefully as it gets closer to the release date, we will have more details on what we can do in the game. We saw fishing, planting, and paving sidewalks in the trailer, but what else can we do? Time will tell.

What are you looking forward to in New Horizons? Leave us a comment below!

A Cast of Characters- Nintendo Direct at E3 2019 Recap

Nintendo is known for stealing the show, despite not actually being at the show. This year was no exception. From a Bowser mix-up to the return of long awaited series, this 43 minute Direct brings the hype for Nintendo in 2019.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate

The Hero is coming to Super Smash Bros Ultimate in the summer. This is due to a crossover with Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age S Definitive Edition (that’s a mouthful). It also looks like you can play as four variations of The Hero, but I wasn’t able to discern whether it was a form change, or if it was four different costumes.

Announced at the end- Banjo-Kazooie are coming to Smash in the fall!

Dragon Quest XI

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age S Definitive Edition is coming this year as well. You can replay the classic game with an expanded storyline, more rideable monsters, and the ability to speed up those weakling battles that everyone hates. You can also travel to past Dragon Quest worlds and let the nostalgia flow through you. It releases on September 27, 2019.

Luigi’s Mansion 3

Luigi’s Mansion 3 is coming to the Switch! After Luigi is invited to a grand hotel with Mario and friends, he becomes a ghost hunter once again, exploring the hotel to find his friends. This time he has some new abilities on his Poltergust G-00:

  • Slam- allows Luigi to slam ghosts into the floor, as well as other ghosts, inflicting damage.
  • Suction Shot- Luigi fires a suction dart at a piece of furniture or other object, grabs the rope, and pulls the object over his head, breaking it.
  • Burst- a burst of air pushes ghosts away from you radially, and gives you a higher jump when you need it.
  • Gooigi- the latest innovation from Professor E. Gadd. This allows Luigi to change into a goo form, allowing him to walk through metal gates and spikes, as well as lend a hand for obstacles too tough for him alone. A second player can control Gooigi as well, allowing for couch co-op, something the world needs more of.

The Scarecraper allows for up to 8 players to play locally or online co-op. Defeat the ghosts within the time limit, find the lost Toads, and overcome the challenges placed before you.

I have actually never played a Luigi’s Mansion game (blasphemy!) but I’m definitely going to pick up this one, it looks great.

A Dark Crystal Game?!

Yes, Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal is getting a tactical game on the Switch, along with that new Netflix series. The three Heroes of Thraa must team up to defeat the rising evil and unlock their true potential. Environment plays a role in this tactical game, with high ground advantage and breakable objects that can damage enemies. The Dark Crystal Age of Resistance Tactics (another mouthful) is coming sometime in 2019.

Link’s Awakening

Teased in a previous Nintendo Direct, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening now has some gameplay to go along with that cinematic trailer. Link must escape Koholint Island, while fighting the classic enemies and trying not to get lost thanks to that raccoon. This game is done in a 3D cartoon style that I really like, although some may think it looks too much like a kids game.

One new thing they added in is that you can create your own dungeon! You’ll unlock chambers throughout the adventure, then you can piece them together and create your own custom dungeon to explore. See how fast you can beat them, and earn rewards by completing the dungeons.

The game is set to release September 20, 2019.

Trials of Mana

Trials of Mana is getting global release on the Switch early in 2020. A third person tactical RPG, you must use the power of mana to shape your destiny.

In addition, the original three Mana games are now available on the Switch. Collection of Mana is available now on the Nintendo eShop, and it is the first time that all three of these games have been available outside of Japan.

The Witcher 3

Affectionately dubbed by CD Projekt Red as the Switcher, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming to the Switch. Winner of hundreds of awards, this game is highly acclaimed to be one of the best RPGs on the market, and rightfully so. I played the original Witcher game and loved it, still need to play this one. It is coming later this year.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Fire Emblem: Three Houses is coming on July 26, 2019. This entry in the Fire Emblem series features an academy where each of the ruling houses has an heir attending. Despite their differences, they have to work together to defeat the evil threatening the kingdom.

Resident Evil

Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 are both joining the Resident Evil lineup on the Switch in the fall. Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil, and Resident Evil 4 are already available on the Nintendo eShop. I don’t think I’ve said Resident Evil that much in my life.

No More Heroes III

Filled with 80s throwbacks and American-style themes, No More Heroes III makes its way to the Switch in 2020. Travis Touchdown makes his appearance in a world where there are, you guessed it, no more heroes, in order to save the world from an invasion.

Contra: Rogue Corps

Contra: Rogue Corps is a third-person shooter featuring crazy weapons and off-the-wall characters. A rogue commando, a cyborg panda, a symbiotic alien and human, and a gentlemanly insect make up the cast of this game, all wielding heavy arms that could take down a city. Local wireless co-op and online co-op bring your friends into the meyhem as well. Fight aliens, kill everything, and save the world September 24, 2019.

The Contra Anniversary Collection is available now on the Nintendo eShop featuring all ten of the original Contra games.

Daemon X Machina

If you’ve ever wanted to be a mech pilot, this game might be one for you. Help win the war and look pretty cool doing it, whether on the ground or in the air. Daemon X Machina is set to release September 13.

Panzer Dragon

Another game where you can fly around, Panzer Dragon reminds me a lot of a title I used to play on Xbox called Crimson Dragon. From the trailer, we see you shooting down projectiles and enemies and flying through obstacles in order to complete levels. It looks really nice though. The game is set to release this winter.

Astral Chain

Chimeras, beings that can traverse dimensions, are taking over the world and destroying humanity. Through years of research, humanity has found a way to survive- by linking captured chimeras to human hosts neurologically. Learn the truth, survive, and defeat the chimera August 30, 2019.

Empire of Sin

Paradox Interactive brings the management style game to the mob with Empire of Sin. From the trailer, it looks like you can manage resources, buy up property, and survive and make hits on rivals to make your way to the top. The game is set to release spring 2020.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3

The universe is on the brink of being destroyed by Thanos. Unlike the movie, it’s not just The Avengers taking him on, it’s the whole Marvel Universe. Gather your favorite heroes and team up to take on Thanos and his allies. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order comes out July 19. If you get the Expansion Pass, you’ll gain access to heroes from X-Men, Marvel Knights, and the Fantastic Four starting in the fall.

Cadence of Hyrule

From Crypt of the Necrodancer comes a Legend of Zelda crossover that no one saw coming (before that Nintendo Direct where they announced it was a thing). Play as Cadence, Link, or Zelda and make your way through Hyrule, defeating classic enemies and moving to the beat. This comes out on June 13.

Honestly, I haven’t played Crypt of the Necrodancer, but I do want to give this a shot, it looks like a lot of fun.

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games

Seems like every summer Olympics we get one of these games, but this one is special. The 2020 Olympics are being held in Tokyo, and new games are being added to the roster, both in the real Games and this one. Play as Mario, Sonic, or one of the many other characters, and play your way to Olympic Gold. The games begin in November 2019.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

The long awaited sequel on the Switch is finally arriving! Tom Nook sent us off to a deserted island this time, with a debt of 49,800 Bells, but it won’t be for long. After you set up your tent, you’ll begin making improvements to the island, and more people will show up turning the island into a small community. Get ready to travel and set up your tent March 20, 2020.

A Multitude of Other Games

Ready for this? Here are more games that are coming.

  • Spyro Reignited Trilogy- September 3
  • Hollow Knight: Silksong- date TBA
  • Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch- September 20
  • Minecraft Dungeons- Spring 2020
  • The Elder Scrolls Blades- Fall 2019

One more thing to end the Direct with, Nintendo let us know that Breath of the Wild has a sequel in development! Excitement!

That’s all from the E3 2019 Nintendo Direct! We’ll post more news as it comes out, but for now, thanks for reading this recap. Let us know in the comments what your favorite part of this Direct was. Mine was Animal Crossing, even though I hate that Nook makes us pay nearly 50,000 Bells every time…

Ubisoft E3 2019

Ubisoft’s E3 2019 press conference confirmed a lot of rumors and leaks from the weeks before but still had a few surprises in store.

First up was a trailer for Watch Dogs Legion, which we got info on last week in a leak. The trailer smoothly transitioned into what appears to be a gameplay demo. It introduced switching between characters, the London setting, and surprisingly, permadeath. The game is coming March 6, 2020 and you can see the trailer below.

Then, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia actor Rob McElhenny took the stage to announce a tv show called Mythic Quest. Debuting on Apple TV+, the show is about the development team behind an MMO titled Mythic Quest. They are on the cusp of debuting their biggest expansion and the show follows their journey as a dev team. Ubisoft’s involvement isn’t clear other than that they are involved. Check out the trailer here.

Next up was a trailer for Rainbow Six Siege‘s Operation Phantom Sight showing off the new operator Warden. No new info apart from the season launching tomorrow. New content is coming to Brawlhalla in the form of Adventure Time DLC. The trailer showed of Finn, Jake and Princess Bubblegum as new characters with a new stage and music. The DLC is available today.

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint debuted a new trailer as well featuring Jon Bernthal’s Cole D. Walker. Bernthal then came out on stage (with a dog!) to talk the game up and introduced another trailer from the Ghosts’ perspective. Ubisoft also announced as part of the post-launch plan for the game, AI teammates will be making their return. A beta will arrive on September 5.

In more Tom Clancy news, Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad for mobile was announced and features characters from all games in the Clancy universe. Sadly, this was the only place we got to see Sam Fisher.

Inevitably, Just Dance 2020 was announced and featured a dancing panda musical number. It comes out on the Nintendo Wii still so that’s weird. You do you Ubisoft. For Honor‘s newest DLC trailer featured a ghostly samurai slicing it’s way through players in the Shadows of the Hitokiri.

Operation Phantom Sight wasn’t the only Rainbow Six news at the event. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Quarantine is coming in early 2020 and comes from a brand new studio in Ubisoft. The game is a 3 player PvE game within the Rainbow Six universe.

The Division 2 announced a free weekend from June 13 – 16 before talking about their Year One content. Releasing in 3 episodes, the first goes outside the city to a presidential compound, the National Zoo and Kenly college. Episode 2 releases in the fall and will be in the Pentagon and also features the games second raid. The third episode, which got it’s own trailer, will return to New York on Coney Island. Finally, Ubisoft also announced Netflix as a partner for The Division movie they announced a while ago.

Another leak that was confirmed, Uplay+ exclusively on PC for $14.99 a month. Watch the trailer here and pre-register on Ubisoft’s page if you’re interested. Ubisoft also announced it will be available on Stadia in 2020.

Next, Ubisoft revealed Roller Champions (also leaked). The competitive team sports game feels like it was built with esports in mind. At least we can play it soon. Ubisoft announced an E3 demo would be available from June 10 – 14 to play a pre-alpha build.

As the show wrapped up, the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey team announced a brand new IP called Gods & Monsters. Releasing on February 25, 2020 the trailer didn’t have any gameplay but is impressive considering the teams dedication to adding content to AC Odyssey while obviously working on this game as well.

Final Thoughts

Ubisoft’s press conference showed a lot but only had a few compelling games in my opinion. Despite the (numerous) leaks they still had a few surprises. Watch Dogs Legion was easily the most impressive game Ubisoft showed, but their support of older games is respectable as well. Gods and Monsters is a big surprise and something I know I’ll be looking for more info on.

Stay tuned for more E3 2019 info and for a recap of Microsoft’s conference on Sunday click here.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Release Date Finally Announced

Square Enix has released a new trailer tonight for the Final Fantasy VII Remake which reveals the release date as well.

Square released the trailer as part of their Final Fantasy concert and has a lot of new footage. Along with the footage, the trailer reveals the game will release March 3, 2020. Square Enix already confirmed the game is still releasing in episodes so this is presumably the first one.

The highly anticipated remake was originally announced in 2015 but we’ve only heard anything about this year. For more on the game and all things Square Enix check out their E3 press conference tomorrow at 6 p.m. PST. In other JRPG-that-took-a-long-time news, check out new info on Kingdom Hearts III’s new DLC.

Microsoft E3 2019

What will Microsoft be bringing for E3? Halo Infinite? A new console? Some new exclusives? Being one of the only major game studios to make E3 this year they have a lot  of pressure to bring it. So will they?

The presentation opens with a game trailer. Looks to be Obsidian’s Outer Worlds and the long awaited release date. October 25, 2019. Lots of dialogue and fun outer space shenanigans.

Ninja Theory (Hellblade: Sesua’s Sacrifice), recently purchased by Microsoft, revealing Bleeding Edge. I am getting a sort of Sunset Overdrive/punk feel for the game. Technical Alpha for the game starts June 27.

Next up, looks like a new Ori and the Blind Forest game. Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Feb 11 2020.

From the creators of Minecraft (the less controversial creators anyway) Minecraft Dungeons which will be coming in Spring 2020 along with 4 player local and online coop.

Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, taking the stage. Phil has always been a man who talks about gamers and since he took over Xbox a few years ago, he has shifted the direction of the company to make Xbox more welcome to gamers of any kind. 60 games will be shown during the presentation, along with some detail on the the Cloud and Project Scarlett, Xbox’s new console.

EA’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order trailer follows. Uncharted meets lightsabers. I am so down.

Trailer for a horror game. Remnants of Alan Wake? Definitely getting an Alan Wake vibe with this one, the flashlight, the monsters. But no. It’s the Blair Witch. Coming August 30.

Cyberpunk 2077 with a pretty groovy cinematic trailer showing us a scene that is gory and ends with a nice surprise. Keanu Reeves is in this game. And Keanu Reeves is on the stage to give us the release date for the game. April 16, 2020.

Spiritfarer A cutesy building and adventure game. One that will be available via Game Pass on Day One.

Battletoads! Comes with a very cartoony style that I dig and of course 3 player couch coop. No word on release date yet.

The Legend of Wright. I am not sure what this game is, it could be absolutely brilliant or absolutely awful. My interest is piqued and it certainly looks like the most original game I have seen in some time.

Sarah Bond, head of Xbox Partnerships. All ID games show up on Game Pass on Day One. Arkham Knight, Metro Exodus, Hollow Knight, and The Borderlands: Handsome Collection come to the Game Pass today. She also touched on a few of the games that will be available for the PC Game Pass. Over 100 games at launch, including Imperator Rome, Football Manager 2019, and the Master Chief Collection, starting with Halo Reach. The beta for Game Pass starts today.

Next she brought up Game Pass Ultimate. Console Game Pass, PC Game Pass, and Xbox Live for 14.99 a month. And if you sign up today. it is ONE DOLLAR. And that will upgrade your membership for however much time you have left on your Live service. (Side note: Several new games were released on Game Pass today: Thimbleweed Park, Guacamelee 2, Shenmue 1 & 2, Bridge Constructor Portal, and much more.)

World premier trailer. Powered by Satellite data and Azure AI Microsoft Flight Simulator is back. This title was huge on PC and now it is getting a modern revamp and will be available on PC and console.

Not a surprising announcement but Age of Empires II Definitive, fully remastered in 4k with new quest lines. Fall.  PC

Wacky trailer up next. As Colorado and Colorado Springs are mentioned almost 130,000 times, I can only assume the state had a hand in the game. It’s a trailer for Wasteland 3. A series… I have yet to play.

Matt Booty, head of Xbox Games Studio. Talking about the studios Microsoft purchased. He introduces Tim Schafer the head of Double Fine Productions (Brutal Legend, Broken Age, PsychoNauts) Tim Schaefer introduces us to PsychoNauts 2.

World Premier: Star Wars. Lego The Skywalker Saga All nine films one game. It does not look like they are retreadeding the old games and that this is all new, but I could be mistaken.

Dragonball Project Z RPG.

World Premier. 12 Minutes. This game looks fantastically interesting. A man is caught in a time loop. Interesting premise. Hopefully find out more soon.

Way to the Woods. You play a deer with a younger deer and wander through subways and stuff. It looks cute.

Gears of War 5 trailer with the best eyebrow lift I have seen in gaming. The game arrives on September 10th, but you can play four days early by preordering or being a member of Game Pass. There is a stress test on July 17th for multiplayer. And if you preorder or play during the first week you will get a Terminator: Dark Fate character pack.

New Elite Controller Series 2. More elite-er and probably more expensive than I could afford, but it does look very bad ass.

Dying Light 2. Spring 2020

World Premier. Lego Speed Champions expansion for Forza Horizon 4. I just got “Everything is Awesome” out of my head… annnnnnd now it’s back.

Pop Funko and Gear have joined up for a mobile game. No, I’m serious.

State of Decay 2 Heartland. New expansion to the game available today to owners of the game or Game Pass subscribers. Appears to have some branching story paths.

World Premier. Japan’s biggest MMO coming to Xbox with cross play. Phantasy Star Online 2.

Crossfire X, a PC legend, according to Microsoft will be coming to Xbox in 2020.

World Premier. Tales of Arise trailer and 2020 release date.

Followed by a Borderlands 3 trailer.

World Premier. Miyazaki and Martin. Two names that have me curious as hell about this game. Elden Ring.

And finally, Phil Spencer is onstage to talk about the next console. It will be 4 times more powerful than the Xbox One X, with a focus on smaller loading times and will come with a Solid State Drive. It launches in Holiday of 2020 and it launches with Halo Infinite.

So that was Microsoft E3 2019, what did you all think? Anything you are jonesing for? For this writer I am looking forward to Outer Worlds, 12 Minutes, Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077. It is a good time to be a gamer.

Cyberpunk Release Date

Keanu Reeves took the stage of E3 to give the release date of CD Project Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 and to reveal he plays a role in the game. Along with a cinematic trailer showing some footage from the game involving hacking and cyber prosthetic weapons. Consider my interest in Johnny Mnemonic 2 quite raised.

April 16, 2020
