The world of racing games has been shaken up big-time, as Codemasters has just been purchased for $1.2 billion by the publishing powerhouse Electronic Arts. Both companies have a passion for racing games and have a desire to lead the pack in the aforementioned genre, and this acquisition gives them a big chance of achieving that goal. EA already has established racing franchises in Need for Speed and Burnout, and they will be joined by Codemasters’s mega-popular Dirt, Grid, and F1 series. And let’s not forget that this acquisition will inevitably lead to an additional batch of games for the EA Play service. What’s next for Codies once the deal is completed in the first quarter of 2021? Racing-game fanatics like myself are anxious to find out.
