“Wait, isn’t this game dead?” No, my friend, it’s not. There are dedicated people who play this game, just like any other game. But you could also say “I’m not going to play this because of its disasterous release and all of the problems it has had.” That is your decision, but there are some of us who see the potential that this game has, it just needs time to breathe and get its act together. It will happen, it will become the game it was meant to be, like with what happened with Final Fantasy XIV– it needed an entirely new launch and game redesign, but now it’s arguably one of the best MMOs out there today.
Also, this is from Bethesda:
However, we know the game had a difficult launch, and we’ve made mistakes along the way. We share in your frustrations when we do. We’ll probably make a few more, and when we do, we will work to correct them as quickly as possible. Know that we’re fully dedicated to making this game the best it can be – and even more so, a platform for endless Fallout adventures for years to come.
So if you already have the game, let it update and give it another go once some of this new content comes out. I think you’ll like what you see.
Okay, now that justification is out of the way, let’s get into the news, shall we?
Three new sets of DLC coming out throughout the year, all for free according to Bethesda’s website. That’s right, free. Not many games do that anymore, although I wish that more did.
Here is what we know about Wild Appalachia, the first set that is being released starting March 12th and expanding over several weeks:
Here are a few that caught my eye:
- New Features: Brewing and Distilling – Go on a new quest to discover the secrets of the forbidden brew Nukashine and bring the party back to your C.A.M.P with new brewing and distilling systems and recipes.
- New Features: C.A.M.P. Decorating, Player Vending, Functional Camera – Use items from your stash to decorate your C.A.M.P. Build vending machines and flag items for sale. Simply set your prices and walk away to continue your adventures in Appalachia, being sure to capture all your favorite memories using the new functional camera. The vending machines do all the work, you just need to count the caps.
- New Quests: Shear Terror! – Uncover the ‘encryptid’ secrets of Appalachia in a new series of quests and encounters to separate monsters from myths.
So I can drink Nukashine and see cryptids? And I can let vending machines sell my unwanted stuff? I’ve been wanting to do both of those things for a while now (I have so much unwanted stuff in my stash that I want to sell)
More to come
Nuclear Wasteland looks like it’s going to change the way the entire game is played. I think that the amount of nukes that are active at once will change the environment of the entire map, not just the area where the nuke was dropped, as if it was an actual nuclear strike in real life, but that’s just my theory. With this set, we also get high level raids to perform and a new prestige system over level 50. It sounds like fun, I can’t wait to dive in over the summer.
No specific details have been released about Wastelanders yet, but we will get a new main questline. I’m interested to see where that goes. It’s said to be their “biggest and most ambitious update to 76.”
