My Time at Portia is a lovely casual RPG from Pathea Games, published by Team17. You have inherited a workshop from your father who used to be the best builder in the city until he went off to explore. Now you get to carry on his legacy, but you have to start from square one. Unlike most inheritances, you need to put some work into this one in order to get its full potential.
You’re the new builder in the city, just starting up your workshop, after basic repairs. Once you name your workshop and register with the commerce guild, you can start taking commissions and earning reputation. As you earn reputation and money, you can upgrade your workshop, allowing you to take on harder commissions and bigger builds. You will also be able to complete builds for specific people and earn personal reputation with them. Once you earn enough, you can do special things like group photos and dates, and eventually marriage. There is about 60+ hours of content just in the main quests alone, not counting the friendship and side quests, so you can really lose yourself in the game.

I have been playing this game off and on since it first came out into early access, and let me tell you, it has come a long way. The UI is smoother and more polished. There is a lot more content, like the Winter Festival which has snowball fights, and you can get cool (pun intended) clothes from it. I’m personally 40 hours in and there is still so much to do, can’t wait to see what it has in store.
The game is available on Steam and the Epic Games Store for $29.99 USD, and if you want to try before you buy, there is a free demo available on Steam. Once you try it, you’ll want to buy it and keep playing, trust me. The game will also be coming soon to Xbox, PS4, and the Switch this spring. Team17 also posted an FAQ here if you need some more information to help you decide whether to buy it or not (you totally should).
Silver will be streaming Portia live on the SSG Twitch channel Wednesday 1/16 after our weekly show The Fox Den, so come on by and see what it’s all about, it’s going to be fun! The show is at 5 pm EST/2 pm PST, and after that she will be streaming the game with a new character. Our review will also be coming soon, so stay tuned.
