There’s a new PS4 Pro model? No one told me about it. Well, Sony didn’t tell anyone for that matter, according to Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry.
According to the report, this new PS4 Pro model, the CUH-7200, runs a few decibels (dB) quieter than the previous model, the CUH-7100, released in 2017. While testing God of War, the console also ran just a little bit hotter with this new model at 52.1C (125.7F) as opposed to 52.0C (125.6F) with the previous. Both of these are 5C higher than the original Pro model, the CUH-7000, but I’d rather have it produce a little bit more heat so it can be a bit quieter, wouldn’t you agree? Digital Foundry even calls this “a discrete living room console” almost on par with the Xbox One X in terms of noise.
Besides the lower noise, there is little difference between the 7100 and the 7200, save that the 7200 has a figure-eight-style power input while the 7100 has a three-prong power input, which suggests that there is a new power supply built in. This could be the cause of the lower noise- more efficient power means less strain on the system.
This new model is available now with the Red Dead Redemption 2 bundle pack, which goes for $399.99 USD retail, but it will be available later as a full rollout according to the article.
