Good day! Today we begin our new rubric – an overview of developer diaries of Paradox Interactive grand strategies. This time we’ll begin with one about an upcoming DLC of Crusader Kings II – Holy Fury.
A little bit of history
Crusader Kings II is a grand strategy game taking place in period of Middle Ages, or from 769 to 1453. In that game you take control of a medieval dynasty, leading it through the turbulent and dangerous age. Will you lead them to greatness or ruin depends on your skills and luck. There are a lot of expansions that add to the game’s core mechanics, allowing you to play as Muslims, trade republics, pagans and/or nomads. Holy Fury is the latest such DLC announced at May 19th, 2018.
Holy Fury is one of the most promising expansions yet. It will bring a rework of Crusade mechanics, Pagan reformation and a lot of other, smaller and/or unannounced features. I will most definitely write an overarching review about Crusader Kings II and its biggest expansions in the future. For now, though, it is time to get to the developer diary.
Dev diary – Pagan Pals – Warrior Lodges
Today we will overview dev diary #97 of August 24th. As you can gather from the title, it tackles an expansion to Pagan secret societies – Warrior Lodges. Basically, Warrior Lodge is a place where your character can get drunk, get in a “yo mama” jokes match with that chief George and then beat him to a pulp. He had it coming, right?
Of course, it is not all, as you can bond with people there as well. After all is said and done, chief George may as well became your friend, who will stand by you in the face of Teutonic invasion. Who knows?
But to do all that, you will need to get into that Lodge. Which is not as easy as you might think. After all, if you want to hang out with warriors, you need to prove yourself in battle. It may be dangerous, yes, but if George have managed to get in, you can do it too, right? As such, you will have to win a duel to get in.
All that risk will be worth it though. There are some benefits that you can get by being in the Lodge. For example, you may found your own Bloodline, as a great warrior that you are (try to beat that, George!). Also, be ready for any and all incoming challenges and not only duel ones. Apparently, “yo mama” jokes matches were a favorite activity of pagan warriors for those times.
Other than that, Lodges from different religions have their own unique art and names. And in case of West African Lodge, you would be able to create a fetish to help you and your family in a future.
That is all from that dev diary, stay tuned for more coming in the upcoming weeks! Also, there are screens from that diary.
