The battle royale genre continues to expand and attract more people and developers into its folds. This time, it’s Cyanide and Happiness, creators of a popular web comic, and developers from Galvanic Games, who have presented us their newest game. Rapture Rejects, a 2D isometric battle royale game set in the universe of C&H. Or rather, what’s left of that said universe after an Apocalypse.
Apocalypse is nigh
Blood, gore, guns and inappropriate humor is all that’s left after the God has left the Earth, along with all the good people. Those on the naughty list, however, were left behind, along with every human creation in their grasp. So, naturally, they’ve decided to make a massive, planet-spanning battle royale, for shits and giggles. Sounds like humans alright.
How it feels
With all of that said, it is a pretty standard battle royale game. Except it is a top-down isometric 2D game, which negates height and cover advantage / disadvantage. And that is a pretty unique feature for battle royale games, as far as I know, though it will need more interesting game mechanics tied to it. And that’s probably why it is being ushered into an Open Alpha weekend, to get more opinions and feedback about current state of the game and its mechanics. You can sign up for testing here.
Keep your hope
While so far it feels rather lackluster and mild, we should keep in mind that this game is far from being finished. Even if it frustrates us to no end, because they still haven’t implemented a normal spawning system. But still, everyone who plays it and writes their opinion to the developers, makes that game better. And I believe that in the end it will be a game worthy of its universe and its roots.
