Horizon Zero Dawn is coming on your own table

Greetings, people! And we have some good news for tabletop players today (actually, there will be more for you later, so keep an eye out). Horizon Zero Down, a PS4 action-RPG masterpiece by Guerilla Games, is coming to pen and paper format! And, what’s even more exciting; it will have its own miniatures and will be absolutely canon to the game’s universe. How cool is that, right?

Going by announce at Gen Con 2018, it is being developed by Steamforged Games, and apparently was in plans long before the actual video game was released, and studio had been working with Sony for more than 2 years.

What’s in the game

The game will take place after the events of Horizon Zero Dawn and its DLCs and will be canon within the universe. Main characters, such as Aloy, will be encountered through the event cards.

It will play as a cooperative game where players will go out together to hunt deadly mechanic beasts and compete amongst themselves for the highest score. One campaign will take about 1-2 hours and will be played as a serious of progressively harder hunts.

Of course, there will be a character progression in the game. You will pick a class with a deck of unique skills at the beginning of the game and then replace weaker skill cards with more powerful as you are getting stronger. And once you are strong enough, your team should be ready to take down a gigantic boss.

Monsters, big and small

And now is my cue to talk about monsters. As I’ve mentioned earlier, there will be miniatures in the game, ranging from small hunters to massive Thunderjaw. And boy, are those miniatures cool. They are made with a great attention to the smallest of details. It really feels like your video game enemies are sitting on the table, sizing you up for a meal.

So far, it seems very promising, and I can’t wait to get my hands on that game. Stay tuned for more tabletop-related news, there will be more soon!
